Released in arcades in 1999, Gauntlet Dark Legacy is the exciting sixth installment in the renowned Gauntlet series and serves as an expansion of Gauntlet Legends. This action-packed adventure introduces five new levels, alongside four fresh character classes: Dwarf, Knight, Jester, and Sorceress, enriching the gameplay experience. Additionally, players can unlock a variety of secret characters—some through gameplay, others via cheat codes—adding layers of discovery and replayability.

The game features dynamic combat mechanics, allowing players to choose between slow, powerful attacks or quick, weaker strikes. Mastering combo sequences by blending different attack types enables devastating moves capable of sweeping through multiple enemies. Each character is equipped with a turbo gauge that gradually refills, unlocking potent turbo attacks. These special moves deliver wide-area damage, pierce through obstacles, and can target multiple foes simultaneously.

New multiplayer features include the ability for two players standing close together to perform combined turbo attacks, unleashing a burst of overwhelming force at the expense of half the turbo gauge of the initiating player. Elements from Dark Legacy were incorporated into the Dreamcast port of Gauntlet Legends, and subsequent versions were released for PlayStation 2 (2001), Game Boy Advance, GameCube, and Xbox (2002). Gauntlet Dark Legacy offers an enhanced, fast-paced dungeon crawling experience with expanded levels, character options, and combat capabilities that keep players engaged and battling for glory.
