International Karate + ROM
Description
International Karate + is an exciting versus fighting game developed by System 3, originally released for home computers in 1985. It offers thrilling multiplayer action, allowing one or two players to control karate fighters, with at least one opponent always managed by the computer. The game features a unique setting on a beach where three martial artists compete to be the first to reach six points.
Every two rounds, players are treated to a bonus game—either bouncing balls to deflect or bombs to kick away—adding an extra layer of fun and challenge. Note that the Commodore 64 version includes only the ball bouncing bonus game. Customize your experience by recoloring different parts of the backdrop to various themes using specific keystrokes, though only one background backdrop is available in this edition.
Versions for Amiga, Atari, and C64 (and possibly others) include playful "background antics" such as a Pac-Man appearance, descending spiders, or a U-boat’s periscope in the harbor, injecting humor into the gameplay. On the Amiga version, players could even type four-letter curse words—initially rebuked, but repeated offenses would reset the game. An amusing and dynamic fighting experience, International Karate + combines classic arcade combat with quirky surprises to keep players engaged and entertained.
