Description
The Simpsons: Road Rage (2001)
Experience the chaos and humor of Springfield in The Simpsons: Road Rage, a fast-paced driving game inspired by the beloved animated series. Available on PlayStation 2, Xbox, and GameCube, with a portable version for Game Boy Advance released in 2003, this game invites players to step into the shoes of iconic characters like Homer, Marge, Bart, and Lisa. The storyline unfolds as Mr. Burns monopolizes all transit systems, introducing radioactive buses that endanger the town. To combat this threat, Springfield’s residents take to the streets, using their personal vehicles to ferry passengers and earn money to reclaim their town. Drawing clear inspiration from Sega’s Crazy Taxi, the gameplay focuses on quick, reckless driving to deliver passengers to their destinations as swiftly as possible.
While the game offers entertaining chaos, it received mixed reviews, often criticized for its basic graphics and being a straightforward clone of Crazy Taxi. Notably, Sega filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Radical Entertainment and Electronic Arts, which was settled out of court. Despite its shortcomings, The Simpsons: Road Rage paved the way for its spiritual successor, The Simpsons: Hit & Run, released in 2003, which expanded on the driving and adventure elements in Springfield.
