Released for the Game Boy Advance in 2002, The King of Fighters EX: Neo Blood immerses players in an alternate timeline based on the King of Fighters ’99 Evolution system. This unique storyline diverges from the main series: in this continuity, Kyo Kusanagi is discovered by Moe Habana instead of NESTS after the events of KOF ’97, effectively skipping the NESTS Saga. Note: Striker-only characters are considered non-canon, as they are either not referenced in prologues or have other plotlines, such as Joe defending his title or Yuri contracting mumps.
Set two years after the 1997 King of Fighters Tournament, the story follows a period of peace following the sealing of Orochi by Kyo, Chizuru Kagura, and Iori Yagami.
